In short

Where can I get OCD treatment in Mumbai?

Weave, Centre for Integrative Psychiatry treats OCD in Mumbai and online with the two first-line options in the NICE and Indian Psychiatric Society guidance. These are cognitive behavioural therapy with exposure and response prevention, delivered in Weave's sessions by either consultant, and SSRI medicines as a class, chosen and monitored by the psychiatrist. The consultants are Dr. Niharika Reddy, Consultant Psychiatrist, and Dr. Wilfred D'souza, Consultant Psychiatrist. The approach is chosen together on how much OCD gets in the way: milder, a short course of CBT with exposure and response prevention; moderate, either; severe, both together.A Focused assessment at Weave lasts 30 minutes and costs INR 3,000.It also checks for depression, anxiety, tics, a mood pattern or substance use.Medicine gets a fair trial of about twelve weeks before anyone judges it, and if it helps it usually continues for at least a year.Thoughts of ending life, or being unable to eat, wash or leave the house safely, need help the same day: call 112 if life is at risk now, or AASRA on 022 2754 6669.

What OCD care covers

What is OCD treatment at Weave?

OCD can take many shapes, and care starts with the shape it takes in one person's day.

Intrusive thoughts

Unwanted thoughts, images or urges that keep coming back. Almost everyone has such thoughts now and then, and having one is not the same as wanting it.

Checking and rechecking

Going back to a lock, a switch or a message again and again, and still not feeling sure. The assessment looks at the time and strain it takes.

Washing and contamination

Long washing or cleaning, or keeping away from things that feel unclean. Daily routines, and what they cost, are part of the conversation.

Mental rituals

Counting, praying, reviewing or repeating words in the mind to settle a worry. These are hard to see from outside, so they are asked about directly.

OCD and depression

Low mood can travel with OCD. The psychiatrist checks for it, because it shapes the plan.

OCD in a family

Relatives often get drawn into reassurance or rituals. With consent, a family member can join the work and learn how to support the plan.

Week to week

What does exposure work look like?

Exposure and response prevention means facing feared situations in planned steps while holding back the ritual.

A ladder of steps

  • situations listed from easier to harder
  • the first step chosen where it feels manageable
  • each step agreed together, never imposed

Practice between sessions

  • short practice at home on most days
  • a few lines on what happened and how it felt
  • the notes brought to the next session

A ritual held back is a step

  • delaying a ritual counts as progress
  • a step not managed is information, not failure
  • the ladder is adjusted when a step is too large

Who this is for

Who is this care for?

Adults whose day is shaped by fears or rituals

For anyone losing time or peace to repeated thoughts, checking, washing or mental rituals. A label is not needed to ask.

Who delivers it

Exposure and response prevention is delivered in Weave's sessions by Dr. Niharika Reddy or Dr. Wilfred D'souza. Medication review is with the psychiatrist.

What the psychiatrist adds

Checks for depression, anxiety, tics, a mood pattern or substance use, and watches the first weeks of any medicine closely.

Young people

Therapy for children and teenagers involves the family, so a young person is referred to a child service.

How it works

How does OCD treatment start at Weave?

Four steps cover most of what happens, and the pace is agreed with you.

The focused assessment

A 30-minute conversation about thoughts, rituals, daily life, health, current medicines and safety.

A plan that fits the need

Milder OCD, a short course of CBT with exposure and response prevention. Moderate, a choice of either. Severe, both together.

Practice and sessions

Exposure steps are planned in sessions and practised at home in between.

Review

If the first steps do not help enough, the psychiatrist reviews the picture, other conditions and the options.

Is there a test for OCD?

No quiz or single score settles the question, so the conversation comes first.

Online checklists

A checklist can prompt a question, but it never diagnoses OCD.

The conversation

Time lost, distress and what the rituals stop a person doing tell more than a score.

Other conditions

Depression, anxiety, tics, a mood pattern and substance use are checked alongside.

Worth a second look

What else can travel with OCD?

Other conditions can sit beside OCD and need care in their own right.

depressionanxietyticsbipolar patternssubstance use

When another condition travels along

Low mood, anxiety, tics, a bipolar pattern or substance use change which plan fits. The depression and anxiety guides explain two of them.

Neighbours with their own plan

Hoarding, hair pulling and skin picking can look close to OCD. Each needs its own assessment and its own plan.

Naming each pattern well guides care.

Care from anywhere

Can OCD treatment happen online?

Sessions run online across India by appointment, and the work follows the same steps.

Online sessions

Exposure steps are planned on video, the same way as in the clinic.

Practice where it happens

Home is often where the rituals happen, so practice there can be useful.

Medication review online

Medicine can be reviewed online, with the same watch on the first weeks.

Treatment and follow-up

What happens after the assessment?

The plan follows what the assessment shows and what matters to you, and it can change as the weeks show what helps.

Exposure and response prevention

Trials show a benefit over no active treatment, though many of the studies were small.

Many were run by the therapy's own developers, so the true size of the benefit is uncertain.

SSRI medicines

Benefit is not quick, so medicine gets a fair trial of about twelve weeks. In the first weeks, restlessness, more anxiety or low mood are watched for and worth reporting.

If it helps, it usually continues for at least a year, then the need is reviewed together.

When first steps are not enough

The psychiatrist reviews the picture, other conditions and the options for changing the plan.

Thoughts of ending life, or being unable to eat, wash or leave the house safely, need help the same day: call 112 if life is at risk now, or AASRA on 022 2754 6669.

Crisis lines are listed in the crisis support section of this page. Weave is not an emergency service. We reply within one working day.

Common questions

Questions people ask before booking

What does OCD treatment involve at Weave?

It starts with a 30-minute Focused assessment. The plan then draws on CBT with exposure and response prevention in Weave's sessions, SSRI medicines chosen and monitored by the psychiatrist, or both, depending on how much OCD gets in the way.

Is therapy or medicine better for OCD?

Both are first-line options. NICE suggests a short course of CBT with exposure and response prevention for milder OCD, either option for moderate OCD, where they work about as well, and both together for severe OCD.

How long before medicine helps?

Benefit is not quick. NICE advises a fair trial of about twelve weeks before judging an SSRI. In the first weeks the psychiatrist watches for restlessness, more anxiety or low mood, and these are worth reporting promptly.

How long does medicine continue?

When an SSRI helps, NICE advises continuing it for at least a year. The need for it is then reviewed together with the psychiatrist, and any reduction is gradual and planned with the psychiatrist, never sudden.

Does exposure therapy make it worse at first?

Facing a feared situation without the ritual brings some anxiety during practice, which is expected. Steps are agreed together and start where they feel manageable, and a step that feels too large is made smaller.

Can OCD be treated online?

Yes. Sessions run online across India by appointment. Exposure steps are planned on video and practised at home between sessions, and medication review can also happen online with the same care in the first weeks.

What does the first visit cost?

The first visit is a Focused assessment, which lasts 30 minutes and costs INR 3,000. Later sessions are either a 20-minute Session at INR 2,200 or a 30-minute Session at INR 3,000.

What if I cannot eat, wash or leave the house?

That needs help the same day: call 112 if life is at risk now, or AASRA on 022 2754 6669. The same applies to thoughts of ending life, and there is no need to wait for an appointment.
