The practice story

Every thread has a story. This one is ours.

Weave, Centre for Integrative Psychiatry is a psychiatry and therapy practice in Kanjurmarg West, Mumbai, seeing people in person and online across India.

Weave was built by two people who know what it means to need it. Medication, therapy, and meaning sit in one conversation here, and the practice is deliberately small so the conversation has room to breathe.

What Weave says plainly

Some situations need in-person assessment or local emergency care, and Weave says so plainly when that is the case.

Two threads, one cloth

What Weave means

The name is literal. Weave, Centre for Integrative Psychiatry is two threads.

One is clinical: assessment, medication where it helps, attention to body and brain. The other is personal: a history, the people in it, the patterns that kept someone safe.

Neither thread is the whole cloth. Many people have met one of two versions of psychiatry: a prescription in ten minutes, or talk alone even where medication would help. Weave was built to be both halves at once, because healing happens in layers.

The first layer is the self.

A person carries parts of themselves they show, and parts they hide or have long forgotten. Becoming whole has less to do with fixing them than with reconciling them.

The second layer is the story.

The past, the life being lived now, and the future someone is reaching toward are not separate chapters. Reading them as one narrative changes what they say.

The third layer is connection.

Recovery rarely happens alone. Family, friendship and community shape how a person feels and grows, which makes the people around someone part of the work.

The fourth layer is belonging.

Something shifts in good care when a person stops feeling like the only one who has ever felt this way. What follows is quieter than relief: the recognition of being part of something larger, which is where lasting change tends to live.

These four layers are not a framework we invented. They are what we watched work in our own lives before we saw it in anyone else's.

The division of labour

One practice, two kinds of work

Weave does two kinds of work, and it is worth saying which is which.

Care

Dr. Niharika Reddy, Consultant Psychiatrist, co-founder and clinical lead. Every consultation, every plan, every prescription. She is the person someone sees in the room, and the person whose judgment shapes the plan.

Education and digital

Dr. Wilfred D'souza, psychiatry resident, digital and educational lead, working under her supervision. The free library, the study material, the software and this website. His work is what the practice publishes and what it runs on.

"I see what you're carrying."

Dr. Niharika Reddy is the person someone sees at Weave, Centre for Integrative Psychiatry.

She grew up in a household where performance was everything. She wanted to be every teacher's favourite, and to top every exam. She was among the top students in her state in her MD examination, and by most measures she was succeeding.

Residency changed what success meant. Sitting with people in real distress, she found there was more to life than winning, and more to care than competence.

The rigour that made her excellent on paper made her thorough in the room.

She was almost married once. She chose to walk away, because she wanted more from a partnership than she was being offered.

Many people know the feeling of wanting more and not knowing whether they are allowed to ask. She made that the work of her life.

She has sat inside difficult family situations herself. Her training in Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) gave her a way to read what families do to each other under pressure, and a steadiness she now brings to other families.

She is neurodivergent herself, recognised late, as it is for many women. She knows how much gets missed when a woman is bright, coping, and quietly exhausted.

She connects especially with women carrying difficult relationships and life transitions, with families making room for more than one person's needs, and with children.

Some people prefer to consult a woman psychiatrist; at Weave, that is who a person sees.

"I see what you could be."

Dr. Wilfred D'souza grew up in Ajara, a small town in Maharashtra. Nobody had a name for the way his attention worked.

So he got what most Indian children in that position get instead of help: scolding from family and teachers, labels like "lazy" and "not living up to potential." He was bullied, and had few friends.

Over time he struggled with mood, relationships, and later addiction. None of it made sense at the time. It just felt like failure.

Things clicked during his psychiatry residency. He was learning textbook psychiatry and, at the same time, why his own mind had worked the way it did.

Today he calls it what it is. He is AuDHD, and the pattern-hungry way his mind moves is the same thing that once got him called lazy.

Psychiatry became personal, not in a wounded-healer way but a practical one. He decided his work would be to prevent the exact kind of suffering he went through.

The same neurodivergent focus that made school hard is what taught him to build. With Claude Code, an AI coding tool he taught himself, he wrote the clinical reasoning layer of the practice's own software, and this website itself.

Care built by someone who has needed it shows its gaps early.

His working belief: the thing holding a person back can become the thing that drives them forward.

Plain answers

What we're good at

IN THE ROOM

Relationships and life transitions.

Couples, families, and the stretches where a life is changing shape.

Women's mental health.

Care that takes seriously what a woman is carrying and what has gone unnoticed.

Children and families.

Work with a child and with the family around the child, not one without the other.

Assessment, therapy, medication review.

Medication is discussed when it is clinically appropriate, with its limits stated.

AROUND THE ROOM

Software built in-house.

The practice's own tools and this website, built by the people who use them.

Aporia

Clinical reasoning, in public

Clinical honesty includes showing how a question is approached, where the evidence is strong, and where it runs out. Aporia is the public writing of Weave, Centre for Integrative Psychiatry, for clinicians and students, with the reasoning left visible rather than dressed up as certainty.

The same rule governs the free material. It is written by Dr. Wilfred D'souza and medically reviewed by Dr. Niharika Reddy, MD Psychiatry, Consultant Psychiatrist. A page carries that review line after she has reviewed it, and not before.

Standards without theatre

Care held in daylight

Some things about how care is held are worth stating rather than leaving implied.

Reasoning explained.

Why an option is being considered, what the trade-offs are, and what the alternatives are.

Plans reviewed.

Care changes when new information appears, or when an option turns out not to fit.

Limits named.

Some situations need in-person assessment or local emergency care. Where another professional is a better fit, that is said plainly and a referral is made. A prescription is not promised before assessment, and no result or timeline is promised at any stage.
